I've seen the fancy ads, I read the golf magazines, I have also gone into the sporting goods industry and played around on the small putting green with all the shiny new putter. For some reason, but I still was not buying into the idea that was a putter that make much difference in my golf game. I, like most golfers would go to the driving range and practice my drive for a few hours a week and thought that if I go as far as Tiger Woods, then surely my handicap would be lower.I had had no idea that Tiger Woods hiding a secret weapon in his golf bag.
Scotty Cameron had clubs in his mother-in-law garage for year, when he opened Cameron Golf International little fanfare. There was a lot of competition in the industry and golf companies such as Titleist, Nike and Callaway were the big names in the city (and even today). Scotty Cameron has a different approach to golf clubs. Because of its limited resources, he has aMuch of the crafting of his clubs in hand, his putter was a finish rivaling those of its competitors with big names.
Then, in 1993, lightning struck for Scotty Cameron. One of his putter has been used to win the Masters. Scotty moved quickly after the clubs were flying out the door as fast as he could create them. But things really took one years later, in 1994, when Scotty Cameron by Peter Kostis was approached and told that Titleist was Interest in his company to design putters for them.
Fast forward to 2008, and Scotty Cameron putters have been used to gain worldwide more than 500 tournaments. A pound of track record, to say the least, but I still was not convinced. Surely it had to the players and their personal contacts with publishers who turned it into gold on the green. After so much heard, I decided to taste typical Scotty Cameron putter for me.
I decided, a Scotty > Cameron Newport, the same putter that Tiger Woods plays. A few friends and I drove to the country club on a sunny Saturday afternoon in October, and I did not tell anyone that I've tried a new putter. The first two holes left, can be expected, I got a bogey on the first hole and a double bogey on the second hole. Nothing too impressive. But then, on the third hole, I took it on the green in 3 strokes and had a forty-foot putt for par to fall. I pulled the Scotty> Cameron Newport putter out of his pocket, took a deep breath and swung away. I could not believe my eyes when the ball rolled the green in a straight line, then circled around to the left and into the cup.
Since that first October day, I have tested the Scotty Cameron putter I bought three of them for my collection. You are not a panacea, they will not turn you into Tiger Woods overnight. But my friends still swear that I have never been as good as a golferI am when I play a putter from Scotty Cameron.
